What is heat recovery and how does it work?

Heat Recovery Ventilation  is a mechanical ventilation system designed to recover thermal energy. Mechanical ventilation is typically installed in all rooms within a building. It ensures that stale, contaminated air is exhausted while fresh air is drawn from the outside, filtered, and supplied to the interior.

ADVANTAGES OF HEAT RECOVERY

Heat recovery helps regulate and maintain the correct indoor temperature, regardless of whether a room is exposed to direct sunlight or remains in the shade. Mechanical ventilation also prevents the spread of odors, such as kitchen aromas in restaurants or restroom smells.

Another key advantage is its application in energy- efficient construction. By utilizing the thermal energy contained in the exhausted air, heat recovery reduces the energy required to heat the building. This process occurs automatically, even when rooms are unoccupied.

AIR FILTRATION

As a result, the comfort of those inside the building is significantly improved. By using specialized filters, we reduce dust, dirt, and various allergens that can negatively affect health. Systems can also be equipped with ionizers for additional air purification, an excellent solution for allergy sufferers.

In these systems, air is filtered 24/7, maintaining optimal humidity levels. This not only enhances user comfort but also protects the building's structural integrity by eliminating mold and fungi on walls, floors, and furniture.

Smog is a major issue in many regions. High concentrations of pollutants, especially in winter, pose health risks. Mechanical ventilation, equipped with high-efficiency filters, significantly reduces the penetration of harmful smog particles into the building, protecting the health of its occupants.

SILENT OPERATION

A major benefit of heat recovery systems is their quiet and efficient operation. Often, the noise level is completely imperceptible to users. This is particularly important in commercial and service facilities where customers expect a peaceful environment.

In commercial settings, silent operation is vital. Shopping in a mall, visiting a cinema, or using a swimming pool is much more pleasant when the ventilation system operates quietly in the background. Silent operation depends on professional installation and the quality of the units. Modern, well-maintained Air Handling Units (AHUs) generate significantly less noise.

HVAC Ratherm specializes in ventilation and heat recovery for industrial, commercial, and retail facilities. Our units utilize modern EC (electronically commutated) fans, characterized by very low noise levels and high efficiency. These fans feature smooth speed regulation, ensuring quiet operation and lower electricity consumption.

A prime example is our XD-HP series with internal heat pumps, which utilize radial EC supply and exhaust fans for exceptionally quiet performance.

ENERGY SAVINGS

Today, the emphasis on energy conservation is greater than ever, driven by rising operational costs and environmental protection goals. Ratherm products, such as our XD Monoblock Units, are equipped with advanced energy recovery modules.

The heat recovery efficiency in our AHUs can reach up to 78% (e.g., in the XD-HP series at minimum capacity). The advantage of HVAC Ratherm units lies in their high cumulative energy efficiency, leading to substantial energy savings.

FRESH AIR

Spending time in buildings with inefficient ventilation can lead to increased CO2 levels, negatively affecting both well-being and health. To ensure a sufficient supply of fresh air, it is essential to use high-quality mechanical ventilation equipped with professional filters.

HVAC Ratherm uses filter classes G4 / M5 / F7 in its heat recovery AHUs. Our systems not only exchange air efficiently but also provide high-level filtration for all incoming air. This provides fresh, filtered air without the need to open windows- a significant benefit in winter when opening windows leads to immediate heat loss.

WHY CHOOSE HEAT RECOVERY?

Mechanical ventilation is becoming the standard in modern construction. Its primary advantage is a significant reduction in heating demand, which lowers maintenance costs and protects the environment. Heat recovery is often more effective than traditional gravity ventilation, ensuring superior indoor comfort regardless of external weather conditions.
